A blaze broke out in a settlement adjacent to the railway line in Dhakuria around 1 pm on Wednesday, reducing 12 to 15 huts to ashes. The settlement, situated along the railway line, experienced disruption in train movement along the Sealdah South Branch due to the fire. Fire department personnel swiftly responded to the incident, deploying three fire engines to the scene, where they successfully brought the flames under control. The rapid spread of the fire was attributed to an explosion in a gas cylinder stored within the huts, although no casualties have been reported, and the situation has since normalized.

The fire, which erupted in the settlement, caused significant damage to the dwellings, resulting in the destruction of several huts. Train operations along the Sealdah South Branch were briefly halted due to the proximity of the settlement to the railway line. However, prompt action by the fire department ensured that the flames were extinguished efficiently, mitigating further escalation of the situation. While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, initial reports suggest that an explosion in a gas cylinder contributed to the rapid spread of the flames.
